The 30 Merton Street development in Toronto’s Davisville Village, led by QuadReal Property Group in partnership with bcIMC and designed by Sweeny & Co Architects Inc., has reached a major construction milestone. The purpose-built rental tower has now “reached grade following steady progress through its three underground levels,” marking a significant step in transforming the site into a modern residential landmark.
At 37 storeys and approximately 125.3 metres tall, the project will bring 322 rental units to a transit-connected and increasingly desirable midtown neighbourhood. The UrbanToronto article notes that “it has been just over two years since its December 2022 groundbreaking,” highlighting the efficient pace of construction despite challenges posed by the dense urban site.
Located at the northeast corner of Merton Street and Al Green Lane, the project replaces low-rise commercial and parking uses with a dynamic new mixed-use community. According to UrbanToronto Cities, “The four-storey podium will include marble-like precast concrete panels accented by bronze metal detailing,” a design choice that aims to bring warmth and elegance to the evolving Davisville Village skyline.
Recent site photos show the structure emerging visibly above street level as the podium begins to take shape. The report adds that “with shoring and excavation long complete, the building’s concrete core and structure have risen to ground level,” setting the stage for above-grade construction through 2025.
While early work on the project was temporarily slowed by utility relocations and water-main upgrades along Merton Street, the development remains on schedule. As the article concludes, “the tower is anticipated to reach completion by mid-2027,” delivering much-needed rental housing options to a sought-after midtown area with strong transit access via Davisville Station.
